Prejudice in the Church — Part 1
James 2:1 says, “My brethren, have not the faith of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Lord of glory, with respect of persons.” Although James was particularly correcting a group of people who were being biased against poorer members of the assembly, prejudice can run the gamut of human existence — from people’s accents to their income to their style of dress or even their sense of fashion! Beyond just prejudice based on the color of a person’s skin, worldwide there are all kinds of biases and judgments are made based on appearances. But God says in James 2:4 that this partiality in how we view and treat people is evil. In the presence of God, no one is better than another. And in His death and resurrection, Jesus removed the “dividing wall” (see Ephesians 2:14). But what about the walls of the heart that still separate us today?
