Rescuing the Needy and Hurting
Often the most effective sermons are the acts of charitable mercy that, for many, may be the difference between life and death, hope and despair. For this reason, rescuing the vulnerable, the forgotten, the neglected, and the perishing is an active and ongoing pursuit of RENNER Ministries. Rick and Denise, along with their staff and volunteers know that practical expressions of the Gospel are vital not only to rescue lives from the ravages of difficult circumstances, but also to ransom souls from spiritual darkness.
Through the generous gifts of partners and friends, RENNER team members visit the poor to feed, clothe, house, educate, and cover medical expenses for orphans, widows, homeless persons, drug-and-alcohol addicts, prisoners, senior citizens, and others who may be destitute, impoverished, or caught in the suffocating grip of abuse and neglect. Each year, RENNER Ministries sponsors a huge clothing drive event to collect and distribute thousands of gently used garments. For many, warm clothing is a needed rescue from the bitter elements in Russia’s winter months. For others, “rescue” may entail a simple act or one-time gift of provision that will help in a significant way. Dental costs, for example, are a real issue that can often be a concern. Providing critical dental care for pastors so they can continue to preach the Gospel is an investment we are delighted to make when needed.
Stories and testimonies of the lives we’ve been honored to rescue and help number more than can be shared. One example is the tragedy-to-victory story of a young man who was violently assaulted in a way that caused both of his legs to be severed just below the pelvis. Notified that he was discovered nearly dead by authorities, his distraught mother came to us asking for help. We not only paid the cost of his multiple surgeries and prostheses, but we also relocated the family and paid for both mother and son to attend college. Today they not only serve the Lord, but they also live independently and are gainfully employed, thriving in a new life that doesn’t remotely resemble where they began or how they could have ended up if nothing had been done to rescue their lives from such evil intent.
A tangible touch of God’s love — expressed through a kind, safe, and loving arm around their shoulders or a listening ear — goes a long way to meet the spiritual and emotional needs of orphans who have been abandoned or abused. MGNC ministry teams visit several orphanages regularly, conducting puppet shows, sing-alongs, and other special events while ministering the love of God through the truth of the Gospel. Summer camps for orphans provide a healthy, safe atmosphere for these children and youth to experience the freedom, simplicity, and innocence of the childhood that, sadly, has been robbed from many due to the cruel circumstances of their lives.
An important focus of our ministry to orphans is preparing them for life after they’re released from the orphanages as young adults. Ongoing programs teach basic life-skills, including hygiene and money-management and the dangers of drugs, alcohol, and sexual immorality. Our programs also teach basic Bible doctrines, such as the love of God. Often combative and antagonistic as they struggle with anger and feelings of low self-worth, these forsaken young people are being touched by the power of God, who will never forsake them, and hope is being restored in their hearts through our rescuing outreach.
God’s mercies are faithful and never-ending. You can have a part in revealing His goodness to needy, hurting lives by sharing in the work God has called us to do. Together we can be living channels through which His loving kindness can be released to people in the ways and the moments they most desperately need Him.
